Day 24 - Leon for the Leonese - 12k

Keep bumpin into Cathy so we walk into Leon town centre together, comparing the state of wear and tear of our clothing given the rather smartly dressed townspeople after my third or fourth trip to a chemists in three weeks, this time for cold medicine, I get pills but can’t remember whether she said two twice a day or one so I can’t be sure whether it’s that, a doozy cos it’s around for yonks or I’ve wasted my money or maybe asked for dog worming tablets by mistake or something.

We have a drink and a pastry after finding the Cathedral square and I leave to get out of Leon as soon as possible wishing Cathy and Yves, whose done the Camino before and is thinking of hanging round to visit the Casino in Leon for a few days entertainment, the best of luck. I can’t do a 4k day however taxing yesterday was anyway and the Town Municipal Albergues tend to be jobworths behind the counter and more like an open prison than a hostel. Plus I’ve fulfilled my promise / voucher to Cathy now, even though she didn’t redeem it as it’s still in her possession. I want to get down the trail now that my bodies getting used to the punishment finally and strike out alone again, only to barely make it to La Virgen del Camino another 8k’s away. I wander round exploring, looking for internet access somewhere but it’s not that kind of Town. Old german guy from last night is there as is Otmar and some long haired guy who wouldn’t look out of place in an eighties rock band who are still playing today.

It has a nice feel to it with parks and quiet streets off the main road that runs right through the High street, but it’s dirtier than some, far less manicured and less works of art, a deprived look.

Coming soon day 25 - Hospital de Orbigo and a 600ft foot bridge
